In February 2024 our colleague Renate accompanied 12 young people from the national civic education and activism programme – Activating Future Leaders for Nature Protection to Brussels. This programme is part of our actions to raise awareness among young people about how they can get involved (now and in the future) in the field of protected areas in Romania.
The mission of this trip was for young people to get in touch with members of the European Parliament, to become aware of the existence of a higher decision making body beyond the town halls, the ministry, the government of Romania, what is the decision-making mechanism and why not, what it means to be an MEP (member of the European Parliament).
We want young people from the 6 high schools in Romania, after 3 years of involvement in this programme, to become active members of the community in which they live, mainly because they are at the age when they start to define the directions and fields in which they want to work.
The project „Activating Future Leaders for Nature Protection” is implemented with the financial support of Active Citizens Fund – Romania programme funded by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EEA Grants Grants 2014 -2021.
